Maybe if people who buy cars only for the name and because it was (or is perceived) to be built in America would have stopped this insanity 30 years ago, we'd have American car companies more able to compete today.

A 4" iPhone would probably replace the 3.5" model so all the current apps would run on it no problem. It might require some tweaking for some apps but the upside is you get to update your app and sell it again.
If they build an iPhone with the same size screen as the iPod Nano then they could invite developers to develop mini-apps for that size screen to be used on the iPod Nano and iPhone Nano, creating a new AppStore category. Would be a huge market and very attractive to developers of news/info related apps.

Hey, I'll just say if the next iPhone is fast enough it can play games far smoother than mine (or even gets games my 4 cannot play), I'll be fully jealous and say that yeah, it is a decent upgrade for that alone.
But it just depends on how much faster it is and how incompatible it makes my 4 for new games (if they just aim their games at the next iphone gen owners).

Jeez. Just enjoy the thing you already bought. No use contemplating whats next. But ... a ULV SB and 3000 graphics is a decent trade off (for the 11"), the 13" can get ULV SB and 3000 graphics. (w/e its not like its that much of a difference, who plays hard core games on a machine like this and has space leftover), backlit keyboard, less bezel or a black border (not happening), HD facetime (why not), and a thiner body. Sure this is thin. Even thinner would be better :)

I would love something along the lines of a nano that made phone calls. I could even do without the numeric pad.
I'm with you. I already catched myself looking up a number in my nano's address book ("contacts") and looking for the "call" item. I'd love to have the main menu going "Music \n Phone \n Phone \n Extras etc." But the nano might actually be a little small for a phone. Try holding one at your ear for a minute. How about an add-on that you plug in on the bottom via the dock connector? Makes the thing a little longer and you can just upgrade your iPod. Kinda like the iTrip, but in the exact same design as the iPod itself.

It might - read below.
It's not weight that damages the roads, it's pressure. Too much weight concentrated on too small a space is what damages asphalt (and concrete, to a far lesser extent). That's a function of pressure in the tires - two vehicles with the same tire pressure are doing the same amount of damage to the road, regardless of their respective weights.
True enough, a truck weighted down with a full load might have 60 psi in the tires, whereas most passenger cars are in the 30-35 psi range. But in this sense, a small car and a big car (or light truck) are doing about the same amount of damage to the road.
Here in north Texas, it's very true that the majority of damage to the roads comes not from any vehicle, but from unstable soil underneath the roads. I imagine there are many places across the country where this is true.
An 18 wheeler tractor trailer has an empty weight of 36,000 lbs, or 18 tons. Law permits up to 40 tons loaded. Let's assume a light load and say 22 tons.
That's 1.2 tons per wheel.
A prius is 1.5 tons. That's 0.375 tons per wheel.
Now we also know that tractor trailers run roughly double passenger cars on tire pressure, but the wheels are also bigger. For that reason, let's assume that the amount of surface area of each tire in contact with the road is consistent across the two. That means that the tractor trailer exerts the 3.25 times the pressure with each tire compared to the prius. On top of that, it does this on all 18 of its wheels, as compared to only 4 with the prius. Finally, the average traveling speed is going to be lower for a tractor trailer, meaning it exerts this greater pressure in the same spot longer than the prius.
Add in the fact that the damage done by pressure is likely not additive (3.25 priuses in a row does not equal the damage of one tractor trailer per tire), and it's easy to see that tractor trailers are the big wear and tear on roads.

For years WalMart has moved into many small towns, and undercut everyones prices repeatedly, driving all the Mom & Pop stores out of business. As long as they were hurting someone elses bottom line, they seemed to think that this was competition and very much acceptable.
Now that Apple wants a piece of the pie, its suddenly unfair. Sorry WalMart, either get in the game or find something new that works for you. No sympathy from me. :(

if apple came out with an iPhone the size of the RAZR or smaller with the same capacity/functionality as an 8GB iPod nano, id buy it.

It sounds really nice, but... perhaps someone got out the press release too soon. The Dutch airline KLM, one of the partners mentioned in the article, are apparently not aware of the deal and respond in surprise to the news. They also say Air France, KLM's owner, nows nothing.
