The 400K drives do commonly suffer from hardening lubricating grease. Sliding surfaces also get caked up with dust.

Stripping the eject mechanism, cleaning it and re-greasing it will usually solve the problem if that is ALL that's wrong with it.

    :)

EDIT: here is a good starting point.

Yes, it's for a Lisa drive but they are essentially the same mechanically.

In addition, you might read up on this and see that this is really douchebag behavior we're talking about where a publisher has a "free" game for kids and then charges $100 multiple times for "smurfberries". That's pretty slimy behavior. The intention is to get a child who doesn't understand it's not play money to have their parents download the app and put in their password, then use the 15-minute window to rob the parents. The parents are thinking this is some harmless game until they get the bill.

I would call this bad parenting if it didn't involve trickery. Do you really expect a child to understand the difference between play money and real money?

Do you have proof apple ordered the destruction of the products?

There are a few outlets to get the same products but they are in China.

Of course not. I was saying that if these were the original parts that were rejected by Apple, then there isn't much wiggle room regarding the fact that they are stolen goods. It is highly unlikely that Apple released these parts for sale. It is much more likely that they were ordered stored or destroyed. Either way, they would now be stolen property.

Now, if they were from another manufacturer (i.e. a knock-off product), or from a non-Apple production run at Foxconn (though there may be some serious issues there, too, as under contract Apple may own all product coming off certain tools), then the only possible criminal issue would be patent infringement.

American Camera? Err.... I don't know any American brand that makes cameras...

Here is by far the coolest American camera company "Red" It ultra high def video but still a "camera".
    http://red.com/index.htm

Others off the top of my head....
    Cambo -- www.cambo.com
    Horseman -- www.horsemanusa.com
    Zone VI
    Wisner
    Kodak,
    Polaroid,

THat's off the top of my head. Most of the american campanies make profesional cameras. The 1st 4 above make view camera. I can think of a half dozen more but I don't want to chace then down to see if they are still in bussines.

If you drive for work, there is a good chance you drive in the same areas, I can't see this app not caching maps.
Exactly. I really don't think Garmin is THAT stupid. There has to be some system of caching...perhaps it's just false-hope since i spent $40 on the damn app, but It's only logical...

I use Office 2011 too, except for Outlook and HATE the ribbon. I wish there was an option to turn it on and off. It's obnoxious.

Actually you can turn the ribbon on and off, and you can even modify what appears in the ribbon. Open one of the Office applications, like Word for example, in the top right in-line with the ribbon, you should see a gear icon, click it, a you'll see a drop-down menu, then select "ribbon preferences," from there you'll be able to customize the ribbon, and even turn it off.

I havent been able to find out if the new HDD is proprietary or if MS stopped being dicks about that.
Nope, they're still being total dicks about it. It is removable still, but still does comes in a proprietary case. There is a panel on the bottom of the case that can be removed, and you can pull out the drive, and presumably replace with bigger ones down the road. I wish they would have moved to using regular 2.5" drives like the PS3, but I doubt I'll ever need to upgrade, so it really isn't much concern for me. I still have over 30GB free on my 120GB Elite's drive.

It took a "research firm" to figure this out? I don't know why people were expecting Verizon to get it before T-mobile. All carriers will get it eventually but it makes only sense that the one also using the GSM network will get it first.

yes, my set up is very much like yours. I have 6gig RAM
Well, Apple replace logic board, processors and memory and the problem was still there. finally they did replace the Gt card. It was great. Still pretty stable, but like I said once a week I get a kernel panic. The only thing I can think about is the GT card. I even tried the basic set up with only mouse and keyboard. Not sure what to do next.
Once a week problem is not a bad thing. It just bad to know that the problem still there. I guess the next thing is to try to complete replace the machine or the GT card for a different model.
I'll try to replace my 3rd party RAM, even thought I don't think it is the problem.

    Thanks for the interest.

My friend had nothing but problems with his G5. The computer was constantly in for repairs and would spew out kernal-panics often. It ended up being a bad memory module, which was undetectable even with an extensive hardware test. The only reason he figure it out, is because he had lowned the additional RAM to a mutual friend while his G5 was in the shop for the last time.

A very sad video of Steve Jobs has been posted online. I already feel like an evil voyeur for viewing it, so I don't want to link to it...but I'm almost in tears.

Actually, I see it's already being discussed on MacRumors:

For a short while, maybe a year or so, and the effect was pronounced, for those of us who use London buses. The mayor rolled it back from the central/western areas recently and long-term impact studies seem a little scarce in terms of car driver numbers. The carrot was also introducing cheaper bus and tube fares by means of the Oyster Card, a card with an RFID chip in it to speed passenger boarding with pre-paid tickets.

Using a bus in the UK, or London at least, doesn't quite have the same stigma it seems to have with some people in the US... although the distances involved are probably shorter than perhaps the average US commute.

NYC and San Francisco have toyed with the ideas but so far nothing has come of it. It takes a strong political will to make it happen I'm sure. In the end though, I can hardly see any other viable options for large cities.

This question is always asked on Canadian vehicle insurance applications, but everyone lies.

Same thing with the "do you use your vehicle to drive to and from work"?

    Lies, all lies. ;)

But, I do favour users fees.

If gas taxes don't cover that in the age of the electric car, then we have GPS in cars to record, and report when prompted, mileage driven.

Of course, the same happens here and there's no way of verifying the facts. However, I'm sure there are statistics out there that tell us if people who drive lots, whether for commuting or for work, are more liable to have insurance claims.

Some companies have introduced "black boxes" for cars in return for lower rates. ZipCar has them on their rental cars and they know exactly when and where anyone is and how much they've driven them and how fast, etc. Such a device is the only realistic way of measuring usage but it will inevitably lead to loss of privacy.

SwitchtoaMac provides (http://switchtoamac.com/site/apples-mac-os-market-share-spikes-to-521-percent-up-35-percent-year-over-year-growth-accelerates.html) a breakdown of recent marketshare data from Net Applications.

Apple's total market share numbers represents percent of new sales for the time period defined. Based on the numbers, Apple has seen significant gains in marketshare in 2006 as compared to 2005. Apple's marketshare hovered between 3.3%-3.8% for much of but since November of has seen a rise into 4.1-4.7% marketshare, with October ending with a 5.21% marketshare.

Of course, Apple's last year has been marked by a switch to the Intel processors, so an increase in sales could represent a large portion of Mac owners upgrading to the newest Mac models. As a result, future sales numbers will be important to see if this trend continues.

    1.419$/Liter or 5.51$/US Gallon.

The only place in North America where gas is ridiculously HIGH....QUEBEC. Taxes represent 30-35% of the cost of gas. *sigh* But at least our roads are smooth... Oh no wait, they are not.
