While I agree with your thought process behind you post that Apple is targeting a different audience. That target audience is dwindling very quickly as Apple's prices increase in comparison to the rest of the market.
I'm sorry, why is their target audience dwindling? Are there fewer professional graphics artists out there? Are there fewer people that demand professional color accuracy today then 5 or 10 years ago? I would be interested in a link to some research, because common sense to me says that day by day that market can only be growing.
Now I haven't done the research, but perhaps you can find a similarly specced 20" wide S-IPS LCD so we can see how out of whack Apple's prices are.

The September update was clearly a small boost to carry the iPod through Christmas without revealing the whole enchilada.
Apple has a whole strategy involving multimedia and communication and it shows in all their latest moves. I have no doubt that the iPod and an iPhone (maybe they're the same thing) along with iTV will play a major part in all that.
Just a few days to go.

Well this is kinda offtopic but I was wondering..
Since AMD took over ATI I think we won't be seeing to many ATI cards in future products of Apple. Since AMD is Intel's biggest competitor I'm afraid we will only see either Nvidia or Intel integrated Graphics from now on. Even if ATI cards are better.. I hope I'm wrong but it is something to think about ..

I don't want to make video the main part of my business, just a complement.
Please don't become one of those photographers who thinks they can "just add video" to their list of services because their DSLR shoots video. It's a lot more complicated than that.
I'm kinda glad FCP and other tools cost as much as they do. It keeps the professionals serious about their craft. Having been on both sides of the fence, being a photographer doesn't make you a videographer and vice versa.

This edition will be forever known as the light bleed model. Mine has it, only slightly annoying. But it certainly knocks down the resale value, almost forcing me to consider exchanging it. Also slightly annoying.
Obviously this is just a figment of your imagination :D After all, people like that one guy here who claims to have seen 14 iPads say that this problem does not exist.

for "consumer prices"? doubtful, because you are asking for a top-notch gaming machine. it's not a consumer machine at all. so why should it be priced as such?
do you call a PC with PIV EE with a top notch radeon video card "consumer"? is it priced as "consumer" machine?please dont put words in my mouth, for around $1500 i would like a G5 2.0 and a ati 9600xp or better. for $1700 give me a 9800. and for gwumacaddict what about country music? I dont listen to it but millions do and is very big. is a rap commercial going to get those folks? I think not.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I thought the Mac mini would be Core 2 Duo by now for sure. I guess they still have quite a backlog of Core Duo units not yet sold. Maybe they're getting killer discounts from Intel on those old slow Core Duo processors.
Seems like the supply of the faster Clovertowns is probably weak enough for Apple to wait until January at least. My own thought now is that if we have to wait for January, might as well wait a little longer for the Stoakley-Seaburg (SS) chips (http://techreport.com/etc/2006q4/clovertown/index.x?pg=1) to ship so the first 8-core Mac Pro can be a really killer machine. Then there's also the issue of Leopard shipping about the same time the full on 8-core with SS setup will be really ready in quantity so Apple can keep up with demand.
So I've set my brain on March '07 now so I won't have another prematurely earger anticipation attack before then. That way if it happens sooner I'll be pleasantly surprised but still may wait for it to ship with Leopard. I will also feel a lot better spending $4k+ on an 8-core with SS inside as well. I'm thinking that may be Apple's plan too. Seems like they would not want to release their first 8-core MP crippled with bottlenecks they know will be opened up in only a few more months. It's also gonna be the most expensive Mac ever sold and I'm sure they want to give their customers their money's worth while at the same time giving their competition headaches. ;) The fact that it is in HD? I suppose so. The concert itself groundbreaking? That may be true of the huge American diesel truck engines, but go examine a new VW, BMW or Mercedes diesel and you'll see that this is just not the case anymore. They sound a little different, smell a little different, but not worse than gasoline - it's just that we are so used to gas engines that everything else is assumed to be worse somehow.
This. You can barely even smell the exhaust - if at all - even from the new truck engines with DPFs. The Cummins ISB in the Dodge, in particular, is effectively odorless (though they were having durability problems with their DPFs - dunno if that's solved yet or not).
That said though, right this moment I'm very glad I don't have to buy diesel fuel. The price per gallon for #2 is hovering right around $4/gallon (http://www.sandiegogasprices.com/index.aspx?fuel=D) at all the stations near me (North San Diego County).

What TIME are the updates on Tuesdays usually made? EST? PST?
Also, can we be certain that the update is tomorrow? Wouldn't this be too soon for them to update? It seems they've given almost no time for the resellers-then again, does apple usually make suprise announcements, completely out of the blue like this?

Bet the combo and Superdrives are all unchanged-the suppliers the same as February's model. And all Core Duo makes sense.
No HDMI or Blu-Ray though (but could jack the price up-so best left for 24" iMac's first revision in 2007)
